Appliances are different July 4th, 2007

i love this picture of the girls - this is how they are in bed before we go to sleep. chloe has a thing for licking the blanket and they roll over on their backs to get a good tummy rub in before we settle in. wayne got the video camera hooked up so we were able to talk - the girls got a little freaked out hearing my voice but not able to see me - they are in good hands but i sure do miss them! as for my london place, my washer/dryer hasn't been fixed yet and it's driving me nuts - i am trying to be calm but it's irritating. oh well. tonight i attempted to make dinner on my weird little stove and realized that a key thing to making pasta is having some form of a strainer - so that didn't quite work out and for the life of me, i cannot figure out the oven - online research proved unsuccessful. quite comical really. so my dinner was a handful of figs and some INCREDIBLE barata cheese. i also have to be careful of where i place things in my fridge as the light actually acts as a little heater and my yoghurt got a bit funky - i threw it out to be safe. television in the uk is funny, even with satellite. frasier and scrubs is always on and if i am lucky, i can grab csi or sex and the city. i just learned that bravo in the us is quite different than it is here. i flipped it on and they were running a show called "porn week". and they actually showed the filming of a porn movie. it was a little creepy, even for me. the girls next door is on but it's called "the girls of the playboy mansion", not sure why there is a title change. the weather is still spotty - rain here and there but it's not horrible. ihave learned that near my place, there are a few really cool bars - i went over to mayfair mews for a drink with a friend from work and they had put green astroturf on the main floor and all the servers are dressed as tennis players in honor of wimbledon. very cute. they just instituted "no smoking" in london so it's very crowded outdoors with smokers - it seems that everyone smokes here so it was surprising to me that they had done that. every chemist has giant advertisements for smoking cessation products, etc. i don't recall seeing anything like that in chicago or new york when that happened. tomorrow, all of us from the office are going out to hush which will be a lot of fun, and i have dinner planned with folks on friday night and on saturday i am doing tea. i hope to make it to portabello market and a museum or two this weekend, assuming the weather cooperates somewhat. good times....

Traci - Just curious...
Since you were In Great Britan on July 4th, I was wondering if they have an "attitude" about it. In other words, are the still fighting the Revolutionary War (like folks in my neck of the woods still fighting the Civil War)or have they gotten over it and MOVED IN WITH THEIR LIVES?
Just something that makes me chuckle.
BTW - If your fridge light doesn't shut off when you close the door, simply unscrew it, thus saving your yogurt.
